Teaching Philosophy

I provide my students with the tools to explore who they really are, what they are capable of and leading them to become the best version of their future self.

I believe that observation and experimentation are key terms for teaching. It is necessary to know and understand how things work in order to improve them. This is how we create the leaders of the future, people who are sensitive to their environment and with the initiative to generate a substantial change in the world.

One of the techniques used in my studio classes is the creative collaboration. I use my work in collaboration with other artists and designers to demonstrate how we can achieve better solutions to problems in design. I think a creative mind is good but two creative minds that work together to solve problems are even better. That is why the relationship we create with our students is very important; it is necessary to understand how they think and what their process is in order to help them be better.

I implement many techniques in my teaching process; I understand that learning is individual and that we all have our own way of understanding things. One of the best ways to keep students engaged is by setting your own example. As a professor I try to stay active and always part of the conversation, our work is our best example and is what motivates students to want to know more.

I stand by this "manifesto" I wrote a couple of years ago,
  • If you are not happy doing what you are doing, change the way you are doing it.
  • In order to succeed you need to sleep, you need to eat, take naps, bring snacks, order pizza, drink water (lots of it).
  • Sometimes it is okay to just go out for an ice cream in the middle of a crisis, do it, you deserve it.
  • Take at least 5 minutes under the sun, go out and see the moon and the stars and if it’s cloudy look at the clouds, they will like it and you will too.
  • Take half and hour to not think, an episode of “The Office” works for me; it might work for you too (or "Friends").
  • We all have different systems to work and to get things done, take your time to find yours, you will be using it for the rest of your life.
  • Yes, my purpose in life is for you to succeed, trust me, talk to me, let me know your problem, even if it has nothing to do with class, we can figure out a way to fix things together and if I can’t help you I PROMISE you, I will find someone who can.
