Quién soy? | Who am I?

Stephanie Carlo is a multifaceted fashion designer who has made a career teaching aspiring designers. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Stephanie has a B.F.A. in Fashion Design from the School of Fine Arts and Design of Puerto Rico and an M.F.A. in Fashion Design from Savannah College of Art and Design, better know as SCAD. While a student, Stephanie began an internship with Gustavo Arango, a renown Colombian  fashion designer based in Puerto Rico. Gustavo specialized in evening gowns which gave her the opportunity to learn about high-end fabrics, and finishes as well as further develop her passion for textile design. She then became his right hand and was running the atelier/boutique as well as coordinating fashion shows, overseeing production and designing textiles. While working with Gustavo she began teaching part time at a local university and she became extremely passionate about the growth of her students which later pushed her to become a full-time professor. Stephanie has been teaching since then while also working freelance for the fashion industry as a patternmaker, collection development, fashion illustrator and as a textile and graphic designer.

Qué hago? | Currently doing?

Assistant Professor of Fashion Design at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design [RMCAD] in Denver, Colorado. I'm very excited to be here and to expand my experience teaching students with different skills and with an arts background.

Before moving to Denver, I spent 6 years teaching and leading the Fashion Programs at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. I took the role as Chair of the Fashion Programs in 2019 after being an Assistant Professor since 2016 of Fashion Design and Product Development.

I was proud to lead a program that was considered  one of the best in the Nation (BoF). The fashion program consisted of Fashion Design and Product Development, Fashion Marketing and Management, Fashion Communication and Apparel Studies. Each provided a well-rounded set of skills to become experts in the industry.

As an instructor my main goal is to continue forming the fashion designers of the future. Giving my students the tools to succeed in an ever-changing industry that is in need of sensitivity towards the environment, more diversity and deconstructing / decolonizing systems.
